Getting Started with Invisalign: What to Expect
Are you curious how Invisalign® could help you get a straighter smile? This innovative clear aligner system gradually moves your teeth without the hassle of braces. Learn what to expect with Invisalign treatment here.

Are you thinking about trying Invisalign® to straighten your teeth? A beautiful, confident smile is a game-changer — and Invisalign is a modern alternative to metal braces that makes achieving it easier than ever.

Aditi Saxena, DDS, Ryan Byrne, DDS, and our team at Austin Advanced Dentistry specialize in Invisalign, and we’re here to help you determine if it’s the right option for you. Here’s what you need to know about getting started with Invisalign treatment and what to expect down the road.

What is Invisalign?

Invisalign uses a system of clear aligner trays to move your teeth into their proper position gradually. The aligners are nearly invisible, making them popular for adults and teenagers who want to avoid traditional metal braces.

Invisalign aligners are custom-made from a smooth, comfortable plastic material. You wear them for at least 22 hours a day and can take them out to eat, drink, and clean your teeth.

Invisalign can be an effective option for various dental issues, from crooked and crowded teeth to bite misalignments. Invisalign aligners are easy to clean and maintain, and treatment duration is often shorter than traditional braces.

Your initial consultation

If you’re considering Invisalign, the first step is a consultation. At Austin Advanced Dentistry, Dr. Saxena and Dr. Byrne do an oral exam, discuss your treatment goals, and take X-rays if necessary.

We determine if Invisalign is a good option for you. Then, we discuss what you can expect and give you an estimated treatment timeline.

Getting your customized Invisalign plan

Invisalign is a fully customizable orthodontic treatment. That means if you choose Invisalign to straighten your teeth, we create a plan that outlines the specific movements your teeth need to make.

We use 3D imaging technology to visually represent your treatment plan so you can see how your smile will gradually improve over time. Once we finalize your treatment plan, your aligners will be fabricated at the Invisalign lab.

Your aligners should fit your teeth perfectly. We check the fit of each tray, and you can expect to get a new set of aligners every two weeks as your teeth gradually move into position.

Wearing your aligners

It’s essential to wear your aligners at least 22 hours a day to stay on track with your treatment plan. You can take them out to eat and clean your teeth, but be sure to put them back in afterward.

Invisalign aligners are easy to insert,  remove, and clean. Simply take them out to brush and floss your teeth. Clean your aligners daily with your usual oral health routine to keep them clear and odor-free.

Monitoring your progress

Make sure you attend all your check-up appointments. We examine your teeth to ensure your treatment is progressing as planned, and we may give you a new set of aligners. We make adjustments to your treatment plan as needed along the way.

Achieving a beautiful smile

Your Invisalign treatment is complete once your teeth are in the right places. Treatment times will vary based on your unique oral needs and can take anywhere from six months to 18 months. After treatment, we recommend wearing a retainer at night to help maintain your picture-perfect smile.
